Byers Choice - A Christmas Carol

Happy 200th Birthday Charles Dickens!!

Charles Dickens was born on February 7, 1812 in Portsea England.  The son of a Navel Clerk, he had a comfortable childhood until his parents ran into hard times.  As age 12, Charles was sent to work at a blacking factory, earning six shillings a week.  Firsthand experience of the working conditions and the hardships of the less fortunate influenced his work for the rest of his life.

Later, Dickens became the most widely read author in the English language.  His humor, twisting plots, creative characters, and portrayal of English life was revolutionary in literature.  

As we commemorate his 200th birthday, Byer's Choice would like to recognize how much Dickens inspired the world.  He, like the reformed Scrooge, "knew how to keep Christmas well".
