• With China having hosted the Olympics this year, many North American citizens have a new appreciation of the Chinese culture.
• This continuation of the Christmas Around The World series actually takes a deviation to honor the largest holiday in China, Chinese New Year.
• Several Chinese customs are depicted:
• Outfitted in traditional dress, the elder elf presents a customary red envelope, which typically holds a monetary gift.
• Two younger elves practice the dragon dance and
• Brightly colored paper lanterns are adorned with Chinese symbols.
• Representing favorable luck and prosperity, a flowering tree completes the scene.
• Note the tree pot is decorated with a silhouette of an ox, as a tribute to 2009 being the Chinese year of the Ox.
